Happy New Year and Welcome Back to 'The Den' Lions!
1. Exciting news! The Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association is proud to sponsor the Young Authors Awards once again! We're celebrating outstanding student writing from K through 12 in both English and French. Students are invited to submit their best fiction, poetry, plays, and nonfiction (up to 3000 words). Winners will progress through school, local unit, and provincial levels, with provincial winners featured in an anthology! Please submit 2 clean copies of each entry to Mrs. Engell in the Library by Friday, February 7th. Happy writing, Lions!
2. Hello members of student council, prefects and the 180 Team who volunteered to help with our Open House on January 15th! We are running a mandatory training session tomorrow during your lunch in the lecture hall. It is mandatory and there is only one training session. Any questions? Please see Ms. Martello in student services.
3. And the winner is...LEAP is proud to announce the winner of our December Poetry Writing Competition. Congratulations to Clara Epassa! Her submission, entitled “Stuck in the Cold”, was simply outstanding. Haunting, yet hopeful, mournful, yet reflective! Everything good prose should be! Well done, Clara! Amazing work!A shout out to our other participants: Divine Arthur, Marnie Hunsley, Isabelle Francis and Jayleen Panchi, all of whom wrote wonderful poems around the theme of the holiday season. You should all be very proud of the beautiful pieces of poetry you submitted. Great work everyone!
4. Attention swim team members. Spirit wear orders are now available on school cash online. Make sure you get your order in by the end of the week!
5. Attention ACS Knit Club, our last meeting of this semester will be this Wed, January 8th from 3-4 in room 1004. We will resume our weekly meetings after exam time in semester 2. Hope to see you there, Mrs. Cameron
6. The 2023-2024 Yearbook is still available for students who have not received their book. They will be available at the back of the cafe over lunches later this week. Please keep listening to ATV for which days yearbooks will be available.
7. Attention students in grade 12 or 13; have you ever thought about helping someone whose life has been impacted by a natural disaster? If you have this passion, then this year's mission trip might be for you! The school board has been offering this type of mission trip to various locations in North America for over 25 years. The mission trip is a unique experience that allows you to put your faith into action. You will get the chance to work with other students from our school board for one week. The tentative location for this year's mission trip is southern Louisiana. We will be helping in the relief efforts caused by over a decade of hurricane and tornado damage. If you are interested, please pick up an application form and get more details from Mrs. Medeiros in room 1031. Applications are due back by Friday, January 10th .
We are looking forward to an amazing 2025 Lions!
