Morning Announcements

There will be two ACE Committee meetings today.  One meeting will be during first lunch in the Library Reading Room, and the second meeting in the Chapel during second lunch.

Attention all students interested in joining the ACS swim team. Please stop by room 3010 on your lunch TODAY to meet with Ms Ristov and to grab a permission form. Practices will begin next week!

Attention all grade 9’s!  Anyone interested in organizing school dances, coffee house and other school events, please pick up your student council applications in the main office.  Remember, this is only for grade 9’s.  Applications are due September 30th.

Attention students who have ordered spirit wear.  Please have your order number and go to the student council office to pick your order up during your lunch.

If you missed Vocal Ensemble, it's OK, you can still join!  We meet every Tuesday from 3pm to 4pm in the Music Room #1154.  If you want to sing in the Thanksgiving Mass, plan to stay until 4:30pm.  Email Mrs. Ratelband at nratelband@bhncdsb.ca for more information.  Hope to see you there!

Tennis tryouts continue today.

Attention ACS students who drive to school! Please register your vehicle by Friday, September 30th in the main office.  Beginning October 3rd, Administration will be issuing warnings to vehicles.  A message was sent out to families yesterday.

Attention Grade 12s!  Several college and university reps are booked to come to ACS this fall beginning with Toronto Metropolitan University on Thursday at 1:50 pm and Guelph, Fanshawe and Brock coming next week. Check out your Grade 12 D2L page for the full list and sign-up to attend by clicking on the calendar event and filling in the Microsoft form.  Be sure to sign-up for up to 5 schools that interest you.

Attention gr. 11 and 12 students taking French either this semester or next semester!  Want to take on a leadership role in our school community?  Want to share your passion for French culture with others?  Want to earn points towards a Letter or Lion Award at grad?  Then consider being part of the French Club Committee!    If you are interested in this great opportunity,  please see Madame McCulloch in Room 2005 or send her an e-mail.

Each year, just before Halloween, ACS collects canned food from our community in support of our local St. Vincent de Paul Society. Our first meeting is in the lecture hall during both lunches on Wednesday, September 28th. Get a team together along with a driver and join us to find out more! You can make a difference!

Great news! Grade 9 retreats are fully back and running as they were before the pandemic. Mrs. Sheldrake is looking for students in grades 10, 11 and 12 to be retreat leaders!  The retreats will be out of the school for the full school day at a place called Apps Ridge, on the other side of Brantford, and the retreat building is in the middle of a nice area in nature.  You can sign up to be a retreat leader at the chaplain's office by the end of this week. The first grade 9 retreat is on October 15th.

The students on the 180 Team who have signed up for the field trip next week need to hand in their permission forms by this Friday.

Our first Casual Dress Day of the year is this Wednesday, September 21st.  Students are to bring in two dollars to dress casually.  All money collected will go to the Mohawk Village Memorial Park.

Photo Day is this Thursday, September 22nd.  Students will be called down alphabetically to the small gym.  Grades 9 and 10s will be in the morning and Grades 11 and 12 in the afternoon.

The first STEM meeting of the year is this Wednesday, September 21st during both lunches in the Lecture Hall.

Everybody Dance Now!! A reminder for all those interested in auditioning for ACS’s dance team, there is a brief but important meeting today right after school in the Drama room. Don’t forget to place your name on the sign up list outside the drama room as well.  Any questions please email Mrs. Boschman. 

There will be a cross country training session after school starting at 3:15pm. the team will be meeting by the picnic tables by the portables. If you would still like to join the team. Please pick up a form from either Mr. Prior or Ms. Czaplinska

Members say it's a place to make new friends and where you can chill and get away from the stresses of class for a little bit. Director and Stage Manager interviews will take place Thursday, Sept. 22nd, before school or on 1st lunch in the drama room.  Those interested in set design and crew must also sign up now.  See Mrs. Boschman, Mr. DaCosta or Mrs. Ratelband for more information.

Good morning Lions!  Our ACS Prefects are here to help you.  Could you use a little help in one or more of your classes this semester?  Are you a new student or someone who could use help with the English language, or perhaps you'd like to learn a new language? Our Prefects would love to help.  Stop by Student Services to pick up and drop off an application to access our Free Homework Help, Tutoring, and Prefect Mentorship.  We will do the rest.  Applications are limited, so don't wait. Attention to those students who wish to park their cars at school during the day.  Please come to the office for a Parking Registration Form either before school, on your lunch, or after school.  Our office staff will assist you in next steps to register your vehicles and get you situated with parking at school.  We are trying to give students time to register their vehicles with us.  Beginning next week, we will be tagging vehicles without parking permits to come to the office to register.  Please don’t park your vehicles without registering, if students continue to park their cars without registering them, we will have those vehicles towed.  If you’re parking here for one day, please let the office know.”

Today's lunch feature in the cafeteria is Tacos for $2.75 and loaded Nachos for $6.25.  There is not a lot of room in the cafeteria so if you are not making a purchase please wait for your friends outside the cafeteria so that we may get them in and out quickly. There is now a second debit machine to help get students in and out quickly as well, so if you are not buying hot food head to the second register.  

There will be a brief Jack.Org Meeting today after school to discuss clubs days as well as start programming for the year. The meeting should run until 4:00 PM. New members are always welcome. Today is the day! Grade 9 Colour night is happening TONIGHT! Student council can't wait to host you this evening for lots of fun and games. A few things to keep in mind: 
• Activities begin right after school in the cafeteria. You can leave your backpack in your locker for the duration of the event, but please remember that you will not be able to access it until the end of the evening. Please bring a water bottle and anything else you might need with you when you come down.
• Grade 10,11 and 12 students: please avoid hanging out in the cafeteria at the end of the school day today. We have lots of special activities planned for our grade 9s and need all the space we can get.
• Grade 12 volunteers helping with the event, please ask your period 4 teachers to dismiss you at 2:40 so you have time to change and meet in the cafeteria before we greet our grade 9s.

Orange Shirt Day is September 30. Shirts to support this important event will be sold in the cafeteria during both lunches on the following dates: September 15, 21, 27, 28 and 29. All shirts are $10 cash. Please make sure you get your shirt and show your support on September 30th.

Are you interested in topics like Black Holes, Robotics, the Human Body, Biochemistry, or Probabilities? Do you see yourself in a post secondary institution studying Science, Technology or Math? Does hands-on workshops, going on field trips, or listening to professionals in these disciplines sharing their story sound like fun?  Perhaps joining the STEM club, Assumption's largest extra-curricular activity is for you.  Registration forms are located outside of Room 3005. For those who participated in STEM last year, there is no need to re-register. Please register ASAP!!!  Our first meeting is next Wednesday Sept 21st, both lunches, during the lunch hour. Attention all grade 9 students. Colour night is THIS FRIDAY and it’s an event you don’t want to miss! Purchase of a ticket includes a full evening of fun starting right after school in the cafeteria. There will be games, activities, a pizza dinner and a grade 9 only dance! You even get to dress up in your assigned colour for the day on Friday to show your team spirit! Tickets will be for sale Monday to Thursday at lunch in the back of the cafeteria, but we recommend getting yours early. Tickets will be $8 for today, but the price increases to $10 tomorrow and Thursday. Come on out for some fun and memories you will remember forever.
