The ACS 2020-2021 Yearbook is here! Yearbooks will be delivered during first period TODAY. Yearbooks will only be given to Grade 10, 11, 12 and 5th year students who have paid their 2020-21 school year Activity Fee. Any student who is absent Period 1 can go to the back of the cafeteria TODAY during their lunch to receive their book. Students with Period 1 Spare or Period 1 Co-op can pick up their Yearbook in the Library at any time – see Mrs. Engell or Mrs. Santos. ACS Class of 2021 Graduates can pick up their Yearbook in the Main Office.  

There will be a Junior Boys Soccer tryout at 7:15am in the morning on Tuesday and Thursday this week.

Can all Junior Badminton players that need a ride for Tuesday's game, please come down to the male Phys Ed office to let Mr. Dyjack know.

Any boys interested in playing on the ACS Baseball team should write their name and information on the sign up sheet outside the Boys Phys Ed office to see if there is enough interest to form a team this year.

There are four important STEM announcements
1. Sign Ups for the STEM Olympics will be available until Tuesday at 3:00pm. The first event take place Wednesday, April 6th up on the third floor during both lunches. Be prepared to challenge your peers!
2. Anyone interested in participating in the Popsicle Bridge competition can now pick up their popsicle sticks from Mr. Page, again on the third floor. Prize will be awarded!
3. The afternoon of April 21st, STEM students will be joining fellow ACS students do to their part on Earth Week by planting trees in the Brantford area. Sign up and permission forms will be available starting Thursday outside of Room 3005.
4. There are many ways to personally combat Climate Change: Reducing your carbon footprint by biking, walking or using mass transit rather than driving, turning off light and other electronic devices not in use, planting trees and by eating more vegetarian meals since raising animals requires vast amount of land and energy. STEM is organizing a vegetarian recipe exchange. Forward any of your favorite vegetarian meals to Mr. Page who will then compile and redistribute to any interested student.

A COVID vaccine clinic will be available at Assumption College School on April 5, 2022 from 9:15am until 11:15am. All students will require parental or guardian consent in order to participate in the vaccine clinic that will operate during the school day. No student will be vaccinated during a school day clinic without parental/guardian consent.  Consent forms and screening forms have been emailed to families and all forms must be returned to the Main Office before April 5th.  

Hey Lions! Can you help donate? From March 28th to April 13th, we are looking to collect canned goods and hygiene products to go to Saint Vincent De Paul. We are looking for toilet paper, shampoo, deodorant etc. As well as canned meat, beans, fruits, and veggies. This is a period 2 challenge! Yes, you heard that right, "challenge." The period 2 class that has donated the most products will win free caf cookies for your whole class. Once again, make sure to bring these items to your period 2 class. 

As part of a grade 12 social justice class effort, we are looking to help young Brantford moms in need. Throughout April you can help local moms by donating clean, new or used, baby clothes, toys, and new packages of wipes, food, diapers, bottles, and sanitary products. If that doesn’t seem like something you can help with, then consider buying a donut! Donuts will be sold at the caf every Tuesday, both lunches, all April long for $2 or the donation of a baby product.  All products and money will be donated to the Brantford Pregnancy and Resource Center. Thank you, Lions!

Attention Lions!  The Friends Fiesta has been moved to Friday, May 6th.  Tickets for the Friends Fiesta will go on sale next Monday, April 11th.

Attention Grade 12 students! We are excited to be able to offer you a graduates retreat this year! It is taking place on May 31st at a beautiful outdoor venue called Camp Marydale, which is on the lake just outside Hamilton. The retreat lasts for the school day with buses departing from Assumption College at 9am and returning before 3pm. It will be a fun day of outdoor group challenges and activities, time together and a barbeque lunch. It will be run by Camp Marydale staff. You will also receive back the letter you wrote to yourself in grade 9. The cost is only $25. For more information see the poster on the bulletin board at the back of the caf beside the fountain or on the wall beside the chaplain's office. Registration and payment is now open and online only. Sign up soon to secure yourself and your friends a spot. All grade 12 students are welcome. There is still time to create great memories of your grade 12 year.

GRADUATES are reminded to check for Scholarship & bursary information on your D2L Grade 12 Guide for regular updates to the Scholarship chart. Some applications are on D2L with a dropbox under Assignments while others have a link provided with submission  by email or online. Here are some coming up in the next few weeks:

-The $6000 Mabel and Gordon McMillan Scholarship applications are due April 21st to the D2L dropbox. This prestigious award is offered to students who consistently achieve academic excellence, are heavily involved in School and Community extra-curriculars and live the Catholic Graduate expectations. 
-Libro Credit union offers $2000 scholarships to youth who demonstrate outstanding commitment to their community while balancing academic success. Applications for their scholarship are being accepted online now until April 23
-The Canadian Federation of University Women's or C.F.U.W. Scholarship is worth $1000 is for Female students heading to College or University with over 85% average and is due April 29th

There will be a VERY IMPORTANT Jack.Org Chapter meeting in the lecture hall on Friday after school. It is crucial for all members to attend to plan roles for our upcoming event. Please contact Miss Dabrowski if you cannot attend.

The weather is warming up, the sun is emerging from its winter doldrums and spring has sprung. That means one thing: It's time to play ball!!!  Any boys interested in playing for the ACS baseball team should see Mr. Annear to sign up on the tryout list to determine if we have sufficient interest to form a team. You can find Mr. Annear in portable 1 prior to the start of school and throughout the morning until 11:35 am. Hey Lions, do you miss get togethers just as much as we do? Do you miss being a kid, swinging at a pinata, and sharing a meal together? Do you want to meet new friends and just have a great night full of entertainment - and of course dancing the cha-cha?!  Then come out to our first annual FRIENDS FIESTA!  The Jack.Org Chapter is excited to present this event to all students at Assumption College.  The event will take place on Friday April 8th from 6-8. The doors will open at 5:30 in the caf.  Tickets are $15 which include dinner, pop, desserts, and all of the fun entertainment! We will be accepting CASH ONLY.  Tickets will be sold starting Monday until Thursday - there will be no tickets sold the night of due to food costs and preparation.   Come out to a night full of surprises and let's celebrate each other! There have been a lot of changes this year and we all need to take time for ourselves and have fun! It's a great way to reflect, improve one's mental health, and enjoy each other's company before Palm Sunday weekend!

1. The Herbert Carnegie Future Aces scholarship application for $1000 is due Thurs. Mar. 31st for those who were active community volunteers with financial need in their family, and the Charity of Hope Bursary due in late April would be a great        opportunity for the same students.
2. The St. George Garden club $1000 scholarship is for those heading into agriculture, horticulture or environmental studies at College or University.
3. The Gluckstein awards $1000 and is one of many scholarships for Indigenous students living on a reservation.
4. There are also scholarships for those who have been in Scouts, have parents who work as Engineers in Municipal workplaces, and student athletes.  Check the chart TODAY!

Attention Mock Trial Team! You are asked to please check your school E-mail later this afternoon for an important message and reminder about our next meeting—TODAY after school in the Lecture Hall.  We will be joined by our next lawyer coach as we dig into the case.  Please see the E-mail for further details.

The 180 Team is meeting today. They will have a guest speaker from our Guidance department speaking about how to chart a plan through high school to get where you want to be after high school. How do you find out what you want to do and how to you make it happen. All students are welcome to attend. You don't have to be a member of the 180 Team. That's today on both lunches in the chapel. Bring your lunch with you on your scheduled lunchtime.

The first try out for the Varsity Girls Soccer Team will be TODAY at 3:00pm in the gym. Please see Ms. Ferraccioli if you are interested in trying out but cannot make it.

Mr. Page is holding will be a brief (but mandatory) STEM meeting TODAY in the lecture Hall.  Start times are 11:15am (Grades 9 & 11) & 12:45pm (grades 10 & 12). He hopes to see everyone there!!

The GSA will be meeting TODAY in the Drama Room during first lunch and the Lecture Hall during second lunch.

Dear ACS Knit Club members. Today is our first meeting after school from 3:15pm to 4:15pm in Portable17.  Can't wait to meet you all and start making a difference with each single stitch! For any students who cannot make it after school, please stop by Portable 17 at lunch and we can knit during this time as well. 

There will be a second tryout for senior boys' soccer tomorrow at 7:15 in the morning. Junior boys' tryouts will take place next week.

During the week of March 28 – April 1, 2022, a Delegation of Indigenous Peoples will travel to Rome to meet with Pope Francis.  In solidarity with the Indigenous Delegation and to show support for this historic walk toward healing and reconciliation, ACS will have an Orange Shirt Day on Wednesday, March 30th. 

Attention Mock Trial Team: This is a reminder of our meeting today (Tuesday, March 29th) at 3:00 pm in the Lecture Hall.  We will be joined by our first lawyer coach—Mr. John Reiterowski—for a virtual presentation about Civil Law, his career path, and Mock Trial tournaments. During the week of March 28 – April 1, 2022, a Delegation of Indigenous Peoples will travel to Rome to meet with Pope Francis.  In solidarity with the Indigenous Delegation and to show support for this historic walk toward healing and reconciliation, ACS will have an Orange Shirt Day on Wednesday, March 30th.   

Hey Lions! Can you help donate? From March 28th to April 13th, we are looking to collect canned goods and hygiene products to go to Saint Vincent De Paul. We are looking for toilet paper, shampoo, deodorant etc. As well as canned meat, beans, fruits, and veggies. This is a period 2 challenge! Yes, you heard that right, "challenge." The period 2 class that has donated the most products will win free caf cookies for your whole class. Once again, make sure to bring these items to your period 2 class.

Our first gathering of the school year will be TODAY at 3:05pm in the Lecture Hall.  We do not expect this meeting to take longer than one hour, but we have some important information to share as we set off on this exciting adventure together.  If you have any questions or concerns, please speak to Mr. Bates or Ms. Birka this week.  See you this afternoon!  

All students are welcome to join us for French Club TODAY in the lecture hall!  Come and listen to our guest speaker talk about his experiences growing up in France.  Please eat your lunch first before coming to the lecture hall.
