Morning Announcements

Welcome back Lions!  We hope you all had a restful and relaxing March Break. 

The Varsity Boys Soccer team will have their first tryout tomorrow from 3pm to 4:30pm. This tryout will only be for senior grades. Junior tryouts will happen later this week so stay tuned!

Those who are members of the Book Club and wish to participate in publishing a book, there will be a meeting today during both lunches in the library's Innovation Lab. 

Junior and Senior Badminton practice will be Tuesday Morning at 7am. 

Bantam, Junior and Senior Boys Rugby Practices as of now will be taking place Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday starting at 3:15pm. Please ensure you dress for the weather and bring footwear for both inside and outside. 

Attention Gr 11 SHSM Students, there is a great summer co-op opportunity through Student Biz. Come to a 10 minute meeting in the Lecture Hall on Tuesday, March 19th at 11:35am for more information and see the posters on the student services office window or your SHSM D2L page. 

Student Services will be hosting a Pathways Night on the same night as parent night - Wednesday, March 20th from 5pm to 7 pm.  During the Pathways night, the following booths will be set up in our cafeteria to give you information about your next steps after high school - Nearby Colleges, Universities, Armed Forces, Apprenticeships, St. Leonard Employment Services, Financial Advisors from post-secondary schools.  Please join us to get more information and help you plan for your future!  See you then.

Attention, Lions!  If you are between the ages of 14 to 18 with an interest in politics, Canadian leaders, and government, then this opportunity is for you!  The Forum for Young Canadians: Summit 360 is back!  This is an opportunity for youth across the country to learn from Canadian leaders about how our country is governed.  Participants have an opportunity to connect with a Senator, Member of Parliament, and other Canadian decision-makers from across the country in a virtual forum.  Registration is open until March 19th, and you can find more details on the CWAYC (“quake”) bulletin board outside of Student Services.

The St George Garden Club is looking for students interested in volunteer opportunities.  Volunteering would take place mainly during the summer months in St George. Opportunities would include maintenance of public gardens in St George, set up for events etc.  If interested, please go to the ACS Guidance Page for Contact information.

Attention Graduating Students!  Every year the Stedman Foundation Bursary helps a number of students in Brantford and Brant County pay for their post secondary education. A bursary looks at a student’s level of financial need and their academic success. Typically, bursaries do not require marks as high as those needed to win scholarships.  Go to the Grad D2L or steadmanfoundation.org for information including instructions on how to apply.

ATTENTION GR 11 & 12 STUDENTS!  Letter/Lion Applications are now available in Student Services.  The Lion Award is given to senior level students in recognition of achievements and contributions to school life.  The School Letter is given to graduating students in recognition of total involvement and outstanding achievement in school life.  It is from the recipients of this award, that the principal selects the Headmaster recipient.  Please see Mrs. Dickson in Student Services to sign out an application.  APPLICATIONS ARE DUE FRIDAY MAY 10th at 3:00pm sharp with no exceptions.

Attention Grads!!!  Make it a habit to check the Grad D2L page Frequently.  Last year the class of 2023 received several thousands of dollars from local Scholarships and Bursaries.  Assumption College has a very generous group of donors committed to helping out and rewarding ACS Grads with financial support.  Don't miss out!

This contest invites all Assumption College School students to showcase their creative talents and celebrate the beauty of March through the written word.  Participants are encouraged to explore the emotions, experiences, and transformations associated with the transition from winter to spring in March.  Whether you have a passion for short stories, poetry, personal essays, or art critiques, this is your chance to shine! Capture the essence of anticipation and the gradual winter thaw as we transition into spring.  Please see the LEAP information board by Student Services or the LEAP D2L homepage for more information! Please submit your writing pieces to the LEAP D2L page Dropbox titled “2024 Marching Toward Spring: Anticipation and Winter Thaw” or send directly to Mrs. McLaughlin via email by Friday, March 29th, 2024.    Winners will be announced on ATV by Monday, April 8th, 2024.

Attention Lions.  Our next Casual Dress Day will take place on Wednesday, March 6th.  Students are required to bring in two dollars to dress casually.  All funds collected will go towards the Why Not Youth Centre in Brantford.

The first try out for the Girls Varsity Soccer Team will be TODAY from 3:00pm to 4:30pm. It will be an indoor try out in the gym.  Please make sure you sign up and have a completed permission form in order to participate.

Listen up ACS Knitting Club, our next meeting will be on Tuesday, March 19th in Portable 17 from 3-4 pm. There is NO meeting this Tuesday. Thank you for all you do. Continue to knit squares and blankets for the SPCA. Mr. Cameron

Meet Mrs. Walsh this Wednesday March 6th after school in Room 3024 for a variety of activities to join, including Community Garbage Clean Up, Vegetable Garden Planning, Tree Planting information, and more! Attention Graduating Class of 2024!  Don’t forget to read the essays for the 10 students nominated for this year’s Valedictorian.  Essays are posted outside of the Main Office.  Voting for Valedictorian will take place on Thursday, March 7th.  

Attention all students interested in playing Senior Football next year.  There will be an important Off-Season Meeting on Wednesday, March 6th in the Lecture Hall at 11:35am.  Students in Grade 10 must first seek permission from their Period 3 teachers to attend.  The meeting should be approximately 40 minutes.  This is the first step in defending our OFSAA title.  See you there! 

Attention Indigenous Graduating Students!  Please check D2L for a newly posted scholarship opportunity.  This award is comprised of $5,000 scholarships that will be distributed annually to 3 Indigenous students from Ontario pursuing their first year of post-secondary studies.

There will be a brief meeting for those wanting to join the Boys Bantam and Junior Rugby teams Friday after school by the Male Phys-Ed office. No prior rugby experience is necessary. If you cannot make it to the meeting and want to play, please contact Mr. Prior or Doctor Denison-Hewko. 

All students who have signed up and registered for Track and Field using the QR code outside Mr. Petrella’s office, the first training session is scheduled for Monday after school at 3pm.  Students are expected to dress for the weather (currently expected for sunny weather and 17 degrees).  See you at the track on Monday at 3pm

This week marks the final opportunity to become a part of the ACS Jack Chapter! Our Jack Chapter is Assumption's Mental Health Awareness team, dedicated to organizing local events and engaging in impactful initiatives.  Join us for a mandatory Jack Chapter meeting this Friday at 3:05pm in the Lecture Hall. We are delighted to welcome Ms. Wdowczyk-Meade as our guest speaker, sharing insights on mental health awareness within our school and at the board level. Additionally, we will be outlining plans for the upcoming year. Please arrive on time, and let's look forward to a productive and inspiring meeting!
