Morning Announcements

Wednesday January 8, 2025

1.   Attention musicians: if you are interested in joining Junior Band, there will be a quick meeting TODAY at 3:00 in the music room.  Please email Mr. G if you cannot attend.   

2.   The Chess Club will be running today at 3:05 in Room 2023. All are welcome to attend. This is the last day the Chess Club will run this semester. We will start up again in Semester 2. 

3.   Attention swim team members. Spirit wear orders are now available on school cash online. Make sure you get your order in by the end of the day Friday! 

4.   If you are between the ages of 15-18 and interested in a free 3 month YMCA gym membership, join the Y.E.S. Program (Youth Engagement Series) on Tuesdays from Jan 14 – Feb 11, 2025 at the downtown YMCA location from 4:00pm – 6:00pm. To register, please call/text Megan at 226.208.0852 or visit TLC and see the bulletin board. 

5.   Attention ACS Knit Club, our last meeting of this semester is today Wed, January 8th from 3-4 in room 1004. We will resume our weekly meetings after exam time in semester 2. Hope to see you there, Mrs. Cameron   

6.   Are you stressed about exams? Feel pulled in a million directions and not sure how to find some balance? Yoga may be for you! Yoga is a mindful and physical practice that can help you regulate your nervous system, improve your mobility and flexibility, and find calm. Join Mrs Charnish-Currie for 60 min of moving, breathing and calm in room 1034 Tuesdays after school. We will start next Tuesday and focus on grounding and centering strategies to help with exams. Flyers are posted by the water fountains around school- please sign up using the QR code on the flyer so we can choose the right space. Practice is open to students and staff, but students must have a signed permission form to participate! Forms will be emailed when you sign up, or are available in hard copy outside 1034. 

7.   Attention Jack Chapter, there will be a brief yet MANDATORY meeting today at 3:10 in the Lecture Hall. The meeting will be short but all Jack Chapter members must attend. Please remember to bring your cash for Karaoke if you haven’t done so. Thank you and have a mentally healthy day. 

8.   Jack Chapter’s 4th Annual Post-Christmas Karaoke Night is happening, and you’re invited to belt your heart out - or at least try....  on Friday, January 10th, from 6–9 PM in the ACS cafeteria! For just $5, you get a night packed with karaoke, pizza, games, and prizes—basically everything your Friday night dreams are made of. But wait, there’s more! Simple Little Artsy will be selling handmade goodies, and the proceeds will go toward Jack Chapter initiatives. Tickets are cash only and will be sold  at the back of the caf on all three lunches. Look for the commotion and the ticket-sellers channeling their inner Elvis, shouting, “Five bucks, one night, all shook up with fun!” 

9.   Senior Badminton players, 7am Thursday morning you have practice. Do not come unless your permission form is signed. If you need a permission form, please go see Mr. Dyjack. 

10.   ACS Stem bridge builders we would like to finish testing our bridges on Thursday after school in room 3005 drop by and see Mr. Dunlop if you cannot make it . 

11.   The 2023-2024 Yearbook will be available to pick up in the back of the café TOMORROW! Reminder that period 1 spare, co-op and online students can pick up their books in the library. 

SPORTS:   

1.   The senior boy's basketball team battled hard against BCI last night but came up short. Destin, Yuvraj and Ryan had an outstanding game. Andrew hit 7 threes to help the team. We will get BCI in the playoffs when it matters! Come out and support our lions on Thursday at NPC.

1.   Today is Spirit of Christmas day, and the last day before the holidays! There is plenty of fun to be had today and student council is looking forward to hosting you at our spirit of Christmas assembly this afternoon. See you there! 

2.   Attention Gr 12 or 13 students who expect to graduate June 2025!  Just a reminder that your 40 volunteer hours are due to student services by today  This deadline was given to you a few times since your grade 10 year.   

3.   And the winner is...LEAP is proud to announce the winner of our December Poetry Writing Competition. Congratulations to Clara Epassa!  Her submission, entitled “Stuck in the Cold”, was simply outstanding. Haunting, yet hopeful, mournful, yet reflective! Everything good prose should be!  Well done, Clara!  Amazing work!A shout out to our other participants: Divine Arthur, Marnie Hunsley, Isabelle Francis and Jayleen Panchi, all of whom wrote wonderful poems around the theme of the holiday season.  You should all be very proud of the beautiful pieces of poetry you submitted.  Great work everyone!

1.   The 2023-2024 Yearbook is here! Yearbooks will be delivered TODAY during first period. Yearbooks will only be given to Grade 10, 11, 12 and 12+ students who have paid their 2023-24 school year registration fee.  Any student who is absent from Period 1 can go to the back of the cafeteria TODAY during their lunch to receive their book. Students with Period 1 online class, Period 1 Spare or Period 1 Co-op can pick up their Yearbook in the Library at lunch or after 1:30 today – see Mrs. Engell or Mrs. Santos. ACS Class of 2024 Graduates can pick up their Yearbook in the Main Office and can have a friend or sibling pick up on their behalf. 

2.   Welcome to the last 3 days before the Holidays! Student council has packed the next few days days full of exciting activities and theme days to celebrate. Check out posters around the school and on social media for more details. Today is Mrs Clause’s bakery day. Wear Red, White, Blue or Green tops with uniform bottoms. Caf cookies will be on sale today at lunch for only $1.50 each, and we will also have a cookie decorating station available to make them extra festive. Tomorrow is the Night before Christmas day. Wear Matching PJ sets (no shorts or sweatpants!). A holiday movie will be played in the lecture hall on all 3 lunches tomorrow, and hot chocolate will be sold for $1.  

3.   Attention grade 9 students. Night school courses for semester two are filling up fast. Cosmo and Foods are full but there is still a few spots left in Communications and Auto. Sign up this week to secure your spot

1.   Congratulations to all the delegates from this year’s quake Model United Nations.  The level of debate was impressive.  A special thank you to Shriyak Kashyap and Mohid Khan for their amazing leadership in running the event, and all their hard work preparing.  Congratulations to the top three delegates as voted by their peers, Joshua Ocampo, Haneet Sing and Emily Wu.  Well done! 

2.   Dearest graduates...because Edge imaging is so wonderful, they have added one more day to your graduation photos. Thursday December 19th, 2024 is the last day to take your photos. The spots will fill up fast, therefore please book ASAP on the Edge Imaging website! Thank you, Mrs. Mastromatteo.

3.   Reminder that there will be a Yearbook Meeting tonight in art room 2028 from 3:10 to 4pm. New members are still welcome! 

4.   Are you in an ACS Arts Course – Visual, Music, Drama, Dance or Media? Well good news! You are invited to a meeting about the 2026 New York City Arts Trip! Come out with your parents to an information meeting on Thursday, December 12th at 7PM in the lecture hall! Learn all about how you could be walking through Central Park, shopping in Times Square, seeing a Broadway musical, or viewing world famous art, like Van Gogh’s “Starry Night”! To learn more, see Ms. Benoit in room 2015 for an information package. 

5.   ACS Knit club, there is no meeting this week. Our meeting will be on Wed, Dec 18th. Drop off any finished projects in room 1004. Thank you for all you, Mrs. Cameron

Well, the Religion Department is taking you to Italy, March Break 2026, and guess what? If you’ve taken religion—aka EVERYONE—you’re invited! There will be a family information session TONIGHT: Tuesday December 10th at 6:00 PM in the lecture hall. At this meeting, you’ll receive information packages and discover how this trip will make your March Break molto magnifico! 8.   Attention Vocal Ensemble there are NO rehearsals in December, however, we will meet on Friday, December 20th in the music room to warm-up before we perform at the “Spirit of Christmas Day”. Those who want to perform simply show up! See you then! 

9.   Would all students involved with Star Fest at Brock University come to a brief meeting after school today in the Drama room at 3:05. Permission forms will be distributed and important information will be relayed. 

10.  Today's special in the servery will be Tex Mex loaded fries or Nachos topped with Tex Mex beef, salsa. Cheese sauce, sour cream and green onions for $7.75.  Also, plain Nachos and Cheese for $4.99.    Cinnamon buns available at first break.
