Thank you to those who attended the 2nd tryout for the Senior Girls Volleyball team. At this time, an updated list of players that have been invited back to the third and final tryout, happening TODAY after school, has been posted outside of the female Phys Ed office. If you see your name on the list of players invited back to the third tryout, and are unable to attend, please see Mrs. Ferraccioli, Mrs. Hewko (aka Denison), or Ms. Moniz if you have not already done so. See you Thursday and be ready to sweat.

Are you excited about the Pennies from Heaven Marketplace on Tuesday, November 14th!  Get excited Lions and bring lots ot money.  There will be a station with Goos fries, Maria's Pizza, and Starbucks coffee.  There will also be a fantastic garage sale with board games, movies, CD, books and other items, most items are $2.00; Nothing over $5.00.  Get your Christmas shopping done early and don't miss out!

Student council is proud to present our Fall Coffee House at 6:30pm on Wednesday, November 15th. This performance highlights the musical talents of our ACS lions! Next Thursday November 16th, ACS 2002 graduate Amanda Harte, will share her story remotely from Sudbury, in the lecture hall, during both lunches.  She is a graphic artistic for CTV in Sudbury and proudly admits she got her start in news production from our very own ATV.  Join us on the 16th.

Invitations for the Academic Awards Ceremonies have been emailed to families. Congratulations to all our 2022-2023 recipients!  Due to the impressive number of award winners, we will be hosting two ceremonies this year on Wednesday, November 22nd.  Please see the invitation for further details.

Are you a student in grades 10-12 thinking about a career in policing? The Brantford OPP are running a 7-week police academy course Wednesday's from 7-9pm. There will be hands on learning about major crimes, Forensic identification, K9 units and more! Go to guidance to for more information and to pick an application by Friday Nov 17th.

This is a reminder for all boys trying out for the Varsity Hockey Team. The next try out is TODAY, at 3:30pm at Lions Park. You must have a completed permission form to participate. These forms can be found outside of Room 2027. See you on the ice.

The Gay Straight Alliance or GSA is meeting in the Drama Room during first lunch and in the Library Reading Room during second lunch. We will not be painting the mural today. 

The Board Game Club will be meeting TODAY in Room 3011 from 3pm to 4:30pm.  New members always welcome.

ACS would also like to extend a very special welcome to Dr. Darren Thomas, Associate Professor of Indigenous Studies at Laurier University.  We are blessed to have Dr. Thomas with us to lead two Wampum Workshops with our Staff and Students today as we also celebrate Treaty Week.  Welcome, Dr. Thomas!  The school community is very excited to walk with you on this experiential learning journey.

This is the last week to submit an application to become a delegate at this years CWAYC Model United Nations!  The UN is going to be a full day of debate on Friday December 8th.  This year's debate topic is Food Insecurity.  Application forms are available on the CWAYC bulletin board outside of student services.  See Mrs. Flanagan in Room 1013 if you have any questions.

Attention all girls trying out for the Girls Hockey team. The first tryout is TODAY at 3:30pm at Lions Park. Please bring your permission form to the tryout. 

There is a Junior Boys Basketball tryout TONIGHT, from 6pm to 7:30pm. Make sure to arrive 10 minutes early so you are ready at 6pm. 

Students who signed up in student services for the Queens University Chancellor's scholarship. Please check your email.

This week STEM is celebrating the world of Engineering. We have TWO guest speakers visiting us. The first is TODAY with engineer Tom O'Neil who will be discussing Automated Vehicles and Robotics. The second is Thursday, Nov. 9th with former Lion Cheryll Johns who is currently a mining engineering travelling all over North and South American for her job.  Dismissal times for both presentations are 11:20am and 12:40pm in order to allow our guests a full 45 minutes to share their stories. Please drop by Room 3005 to pick up a dismissal slip to attend both events.

Attention Junior Girls Volleyball!  Please check the board outside girls phys-ed for the list. It should be there sometime Tuesday morning.  If your name is on the list, you are invited to continue with tryouts.  The next tryout will be Wednesday morning at 7 am.  If for some reason you can not attend, you must speak to Mrs. Hawkins directly.  She can be found period 1 in room 3015 or period 3 in room 1005.  DO NOT ENTER THE SCHOOL BEFORE 6:50am. Postcards for Peace have arrived!  Participating classes are asked to complete and return these to the labelled baskets in the Main Office by 3:00 pm on Wednesday, November 8th.  Extra postcards are also available at the reception desk—first come, first serve!

The first try out for the Sr Girls Volleyball team will be TODAY at 3:00pm. Please bring your signed permission forms with you or you will not be able to try out.

Interested youth can visit the website at www.youthoftomorrow.ca for more information and to register to confirm their spot!

The newly established Corporate Visionaries Business Club invites you to attend their first meeting of the year today after school in Room 2006.  The meeting will run from 3pm-3:30pm and we will be discussing the Stock Market Simulator Activity, as well as many other exciting events and opportunities.  Join us today at 3pm in Room 2006 and become one of the founding members of this new club at ACS!

Attention all Environment Club members.  If you are participating in the Community Garbage Clean Up, please meet Mrs. Walsh in Room 3024 - today after school - to collect your supplies, and for further instructions. Remember, you must have a signed permission form to participate!

Today is THE LAST DAY to submit auditions for fall coffee house. If you are interested in performing but have not yet submitted a video audition, please email Ms Ristov ASAP!

Remembrance Day is around the corner Lions.  Don't miss out on your chance to thank a Canadian veteran.  CWAYC is once again running the Thank a vet writing competition.  In 500 words or less, what would you say to thank and honour a Canadian veteran?  Entries can be submitted to the basket in the main office.  The deadline to submit is Tuesday October 31st.  There are prizes!

All students participating in We Scare Hunger, here are a few reminders for TODAY.  Remember to be in the caf for 4pm, all driver's must be here for a brief meeting at 4:15pm, wear bright colours, dress warm, and be sure to bring a reuseable water bottle and snacks for yourself.

Attention students in Grades 11 and 12.  Today is the last day to register for your SHSM. Make sure to drop off your signed forms in Student Services. 

Applications for the School Council Volunteerism Award are still available in the Main Office.  Deadline for submissions is Monday, October 30th at 3:00pm.  

Just a reminder to be returning money to Madame Rodger for the chocolates that you have taken to sell. Please see her immediately if you need extra time.  You can find her in the foods room before and after school and on your lunch.

Attention all Environment Club members.  Our first Community Garbage Clean Up will be held Wednesday November 1st after school.  To participate you MUST pick up and return a Permission Form to Room 3010.  You MUST travel in groups of 2 or more, and if you are not within walking distance from the school, you MUST arrange a ride home.  Email or see Mrs. Walsh if you have any further questions. 

Good morning Lions! On October 30th and 31st during both lunches at the back of the caf, Halloween candy bags are being sold. Cash only. You can get a small, medium, or large. Don't miss it!

It's that time again! The Art club will be meeting on both lunches on Monday, Oct. 30th. For 9s and 11s we will be meeting in room 2015 and for 10s and 12s we will meet in room 2028. See you there for some Halloween art fun!

Any Girls interested in trying out for the Jr or Sr Volleyball Teams please pick up a permission form and sign up outside the Female Phys Ed Office. Try out dates will be announced next week.  If you have any questions, please see Ms. Ferraccioli.

Anyone interested in trying out for the ACS Boys varsity hockey team will need to get a permission form from one of the coaches in room 2027. The forms will be available after school, all week, and tryouts will start in November.

Remembrance Day is around the corner Lions.  Don't miss out on your chance to thank a Canadian veteran.  CWAYC is once again running the Thank a vet writing competition.  In 500 words or less, what would you say to thank and honour a Canadian veteran?  Entries can be submitted to the basket in the main office.  The deadline to submit is Tuesday October 31st.  There are prizes!

The International and Indigenous Languages Elementary Program is looking for volunteers in their Spanish, Mandarin, Tagalog and Portuguese classes. The courses run IN Person at SMCLC in Brantford from 4:30pm to 6:30pm.  More information can be found on the Volunteer Board outside of Student Services.
