Thursday, March 9th, 2023

Happy monochrome day Lions! To close off our spirit week, tomorrow will be flannel pajama day. You can replace any uniform piece with a flannel pajama piece. The pajamas must be flannel, and any pajama bottoms must be pants, NO SHORTS. If you are dressed in theme, you can wear any shoes. If you do not want to wear flannel, you can still show off your spirit by dressing in spirit wear. 

The Chess Club will be running today from 3 to 4pm in Room 2023. All are welcome to attend.

Could teachers please excuse all members of the Junior Badminton team at 2:35pm for their game at BCI today. 

Attention all Lions!  Are you interested in staying overnight at the school, and changing the world at the same time?  Assumption Cares will be on Friday May 12th, and we will be fundraising for St. Vincent de Paul starting right after March Break.  On the Tuesday after March break, come to the lecture hall on your lunch and find out more about how you can be part of Assumption Cares.

Any students interested in joining the Spanish Club, please sign your name on the sheet in room 1034.  The club is for students who speak Spanish and for those who want to learn more about the Spanish language.  Further information about meeting times and location will be released after March Break.  If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask Mr. Bender or Ms. Pacheco.

There is a soccer sign up outside the male Phys Ed office, please make sure you also take a form when you sign up. There will also be a brief meeting Friday after school in the gym about when tryouts will begin after the break.

Hey Lions! We have reached the halfway point of our spirit week. Thanks for contributing your $2 to today's dress down day. Tomorrow is monochrome day! Your top and bottoms must be the same colour. Any shoes may be worn with a monochrome outfit. If you are not in full monochrome, you must be in full uniform! 

There will be a mandatory meeting today for all retreat leaders for the grade 9 retreats to review the leader scheduling for semester 2 and receive retreat updates. The meeting will take place in the chapel on both lunches today.

Girls Rugby will have a practice TODAY after school from 3pm to 4:30pm.

Attention grade 11 and 12 students: March Break is a great time to go and tour colleges and universities. Many campuses have special programming and spring open houses scheduled. Make sure to check the college and university websites for information. Happy touring!

Hope to see many staff and students in the audience!

Welcome to Spirit Week Lions, we hope you're all wearing your hats! Tomorrow is Team Spirit Day! Show off your favorite sports team, or future college or university by replacing your uniform top with a team jersey or sweater. Uniform bottoms are required!

There will be a meeting for all those interested in playing on the Sr Football Team next fall.  The meeting will take place TODAY in the Lecture Hall during second lunch.  Students in Grade 11 wishing to attend the meeting will need permission from their period 3 teacher.

The Senior Boys Rugby team will have its first practice TODAY after school from 3:00pm to 4:30pm. The Junior and Bantam Boys Rugby teams will practice afterwards from 4:30pm to 6:00pm. Please make sure you bring your permission forms.

If you are on the Badminton team and cannot make the game tomorrow night, please come down to the male Phys Ed office and let Mr.Dyjack know.

ATTENTION GR 11 & 12 STUDENTS!  Letter/Lion Applications are now available in Student Services.  The Lion Award is given to senior level students in recognition of achievements and contributions to school life.  The School Letter is given to graduating students in recognition of total involvement and outstanding achievement in school life.  It is from the recipients of this award, that the principal selects the Headmaster recipient.  Please see Mrs. Dickson in Student Services to sign out an application.  APPLICATIONS ARE DUE FRIDAY MAY 5th at 3:00pm sharp with no exceptions.

All STEM Olympic participants are asked to visit the third floor at the beginning of lunch TODAY as they announce the grade champions and distribute the final prizes.

Both Junior and Senior Badminton teams will have practice Monday Morning starting  at 7:15am. This will be the final practice before both teams play their first match on Tuesday. Any player that has not received their schedule is asked to please see Mr. Dyjack. 

Hey Lions!  Next week is Spirit Week! ACS Students Council has planned a Spirit Week to take us into March Break. Posters detailing the daily themes can be found around the school. Show off your school spirit by dressing to excess! Monday is "hat day". Wear your favourite hat to school along with full uniform.

The Black History Month assembly and "Throwback 2000s" Casual Dress Day will be held on Tuesday, February 28th.  The assembly will occur during period 1.  Staff and students are encouraged to wear clothing from the early 2000s.  This is a free Casual Dress Day. 

Attention current grade 10 students. Are you interested in signing up for a Secondary High Skill Major next year? ACS offers SHSM programs in: Arts, Health Care, Business, Manufacturing, Computers, and Automotive.   If you think this might be right for you please come to the Lecture Hall at 1pm today for a quick SHSM meeting. Again, this is for current grade 10 students that are interested in a SHSM program next year. See you in the lecture hall at the start of your lunch!

Any grade 12's interested in writing the math contest can sign up on the STEM Brightspace page, or email Mrs. Bednarz. Please do so by the end of the week. Mr. Stec will be running practice sessions on Tuesdays after school starting March 7th in Room 3011. The date of the contest is April 4th. 

Attention all girls interested in joining this year's Varsity Rugby Team. Permission forms are now available for pickup outside of Room 1087. Our practices will begin this week so make sure you are listening to announcements for dates and times. 

STEM Olympics will start on Monday Feb 27th and run until March 2nd, during both lunches. Teams of students (max 4) from each grade compete against their peers in four consecutive events. There will be prizes for each daily winner as well as the crowning champions.

There will be a meeting for all those interested in playing on the Sr Football Team next fall.  The meeting will take place on Monday, March 6th, in the Lecture Hall during second lunch.  Students in Grade 11 wishing to attend the meeting will need permission from their period 3 teacher.

Attention CWAYC members and those interested in military history.  On Wednesday March 1st, Lieutenant-Colonel Normand Levert will be making a live, Canada wide presentation via teams.  "Lieutenant-Colonel Levert served with the Royal Canadian Engineers for more than 30 years specializing in demining and advised on antipersonnel landmine stock destruction."  He will share his experiences and answer student questions.  The presentation will be bilingual.  If you would like to attend the presentation, you need to sign up outside Room 1013.  The presentation will take place in the Lecture Hall from 1:00pm-2:00pm on March 1st.  Please see Mrs. Flanagan in 1013 if you have any questions.

Hey Lions!  Our Prefect Program is recruiting new team members and we’re looking for you!  If you’d like to learn more about Prefect, what we do, and how to join, stop by the LECTURE HALL on Thurs. March 2 during your lunch.  Don't forget to bring your lunch and a friend while attending our mandatory information session and to pick up an application to join.  Applications are limited, so don’t delay.  We look forward to meeting you on THURSDAY in the LECTURE HALL during your LUNCH.

Email a video of your talent to Mrs. Ratelband by the due date - Friday, March 31st by midnight. Please ensure your artistic choices such as music, costuming, theme, language etc. reflect the moral tone of ACS. 

A special contest for all students is happening right now in the Library. It's called Blind Date With A Book! For the rest of February come to the Library and unwrap a book and create a Poem using the book you selected. The best poem will win an Amazon gift certificate. Rush to the library today before all the Blind Date Books are gone. LEAP members who enter the contest will receive a LEAP point. Contest closes March 1st.

There will be a school-based immunization catch up clinic for students born in 2005 and 2006 TODAY in the small gym.  Students will be called down by alphabetically by last name.
